Traffic Case Records in Boone County
Boone County Magistrate Court hears most traffic and citation cases filed under state code. The magistrate clerk keeps those files. Case information appears through the Magistrate Court Record Search, or MCR. For citation and payment-plan lookups by exact ID, the Magistrate Court Payment System is the tool. It is called MFP. Each does one job. MFP was not built for browsing dockets, and MCR posts no document images online.
Municipal ordinance tickets are different. Madison, Danville, Whitesville, or Sylvester may keep the case if that town created a court by ordinance. Boone County has no statewide municipal traffic portal covering its incorporated places. Ask the town's clerk, recorder, or mayor's office. An appeal later moves to circuit court. That opens a new case number and a new record.
Boone County MFP Exact Search
The official Magistrate Court Payment System gives you three exact paths: Citation ID Number, Case ID Number, and Payment Plan ID Number. A citation search adds a Citation County dropdown too. Type the identifier exactly as printed, dashes and all. MFP runs on reCAPTCHA and wants an exact match, not a broad name hunt.
| Field label | Type | Required | Format note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Citation ID Number | Text | For citation path | Enter the full nine-digit-style ID exactly. |
| Citation County | Dropdown | With citation ID | Select Boone; a clear option is present. |
| Case ID Number | Text | For case path | Examples follow ##-M##X-##### or M##M-##########. |
| Payment Plan ID | Text | For plan path | Example form is MC##-#####. |
The screen offers just Search and Back. Save the result. After any authorized payment, keep your receipt and confirm the case status whenever a court date or other legal deadline is still open.
Boone County Traffic Ticket Lookups
Start with the citation itself, paper or electronic. It shows the issuing court, the response or appearance date, and the citation number. MFP fits an exact citation or case ID. For magistrate case detail, clear the CAPTCHA at MCR. Search by case number or name at MCR. MCR caps results at 30 records and offers no online copies.
- Read the citation and identify whether it names magistrate or municipal court.
- Enter the exact Citation ID in MFP and select Boone as the citation county.
- Use MCR for the magistrate case detail, charge, events, plea, and docket rows.
- If no record appears, call the issuing court before the response date passes.
- For magistrate help, call 304-369-7366 or visit 200 State Street in Madison.
For a municipal ticket, call the town directly. A Boone County state portal result is never proof of what happened in a municipal court. The Boone County docket search breaks down the court-level split in more depth.
MFP Versus MCR in Boone County
MFP handles the exact, payment-side lookup. MCR lays out the public magistrate case structure. Many people need both. Use MFP to find or pay under an exact identifier, then turn to MCR or the clerk to check the case event and disposition. Neither service replaces the paper citation or a later court order.
| Question | MFP | MCR |
|---|---|---|
| Search key | Exact citation, case, or payment-plan ID | First name, last name, or case number |
| Main use | Lookup and payment route | Magistrate case and docket detail |
| Gate or limit | reCAPTCHA and exact match | CAPTCHA and 30-result cap |
| Documents | Not a case-file service | No document images online |
Traffic Court Dates in Boone County
The response or appearance date on the citation is the first deadline worth writing down. MCR's event schedule can add more. It lists event type, date and time, room, location, judge, and a reason if closed. A "Hearing/Event Closed" label only means that one event ended. It is not, by itself, a final disposition. If a notice or order resets the event, follow the later official date.
| Citation or case ID | Copy the full identifier, including dashes, such as 24-M03F-00055. |
|---|---|
| Issuing court | Distinguishes Boone magistrate procedure from a municipal ordinance matter. |
| Date and time | The response, appearance, hearing, or later event setting. |
| Room and location | The assigned place when MCR or the notice supplies it. |
| Event status | A closed event is not automatically a closed case. |
Call the clerk and ask whether the date is firm, continued, remote, or in person. Weather can close a courthouse, so check the Judiciary's closure information before you drive out. An annual report is not a calendar.
Boone County Citation Responses
Magistrate Rule 7 governs how you respond to a traffic citation in Boone County. A guilty or no-contest route may be open under the rule. Plead not guilty in person or by mail. Most eligible guilty or no-contest matters can even be handled by phone, with the completed citation and the required fines and costs mailed in. Serious or license-status matters demand an in-person appearance.
- Charge
- The alleged traffic offense. It is not a conviction.
- Plea
- The response of guilty, no contest, or not guilty where the rules permit it.
- Disposition
- The court’s docketed result for the charge or case.
- Continuance
- A move to a later date after approval, not a dismissal.
Read the current rule and the citation itself. Clerk staff can confirm filing and schedule facts, but the choice of plea is yours.
Paying a Ticket vs Fighting It
Paying and fighting are not the same thing. Payment can carry a plea. It also produces a recorded disposition under the applicable rule. A not-guilty response instead asks the court to address the matter through the contest process. Either way, the citation's date and the issuing court's instructions control.
| Paying the ticket | Contesting the ticket |
|---|---|
| Follow an eligible guilty or no-contest route. | Enter a not-guilty response by an allowed method. |
| Use MFP, phone, mail, or the counter only as authorized. | Confirm the next hearing or trial setting with the court. |
| Keep the receipt and verify the docket update. | Keep proof that the response was received on time. |
Missed Boone County date: Failure to respond or appear can lead to prosecutor and DMV notice, a warrant request, or a license consequence under the statute that fits the case. Contact the court and DMV rather than assuming late payment ends every issue.
Boone County Failure-to-Appear Path
West Virginia has several failure-to-appear provisions. Consequences turn on the kind and stage of the case. Code §17B-3-3a covers failure to respond or appear in a motor-vehicle matter. Sections 17B-3-3c, 50-3-2A, and 62-4-17 cover other criminal, magistrate-notice, and suspension mechanisms.
Act before the printed date. Keep proof of any mailed response or payment, and verify what the docket actually says. Miss the date, and the first call is to the magistrate clerk. Ask whether a warrant, new event, amount, or DMV notice is on file. An old portal row will not tell you where the case stands now.
Two Records: Court and Driver Files
A Boone County traffic court record and a state driver file sit with different offices. The magistrate or municipal clerk keeps the case record behind the citation. The West Virginia DMV keeps the administrative driver file. The traffic court record matters here. It shows which court heard the matter and what the case docket records.
| Court traffic record | Driver file | |
|---|---|---|
| Custodian | Boone magistrate clerk or issuing municipality | West Virginia DMV |
| Content | Citation, charge, plea, events, disposition, fine data | State motor-vehicle administrative entries |
| Access | MCR, MFP, or a clerk request | DMV’s own authorized request process |
Court files and driver records answer different questions. Call the court about a hearing date or how a case ended. The DMV handles its own notices.
Boone County Traffic Forms
The official magistrate forms page lets you filter by topic, category, and language. Two entries matter for traffic cases here. One is Motion to Dismiss Traffic Citation, form SCA-M340NP. The other is Request for Deferral of DUI Conviction, MCRRQDD. A motion to dismiss filed in a Boone County traffic docket carries a 10-day objection period. That period runs under the cited procedure.
Remember what a blank form is not. It is not a ruling. It does not show that anyone qualifies for relief. Grab the current official version, and file it the way the clerk confirms. Never edit official language, and treat the download itself as proof of nothing about deadlines.
Traffic Record Copy Fees
MCR puts no documents online. For copies of a traffic case, go through the Boone County Magistrate Court clerk, whose office charges a nominal 25 cents per page under the magistrate administrative rules. MFP adds a $2 WV.gov price per payment. That figure covers the payment itself. It is not a copy fee, and it says nothing about the fine or court costs on a ticket.
| Item | Fee | Boone County note |
|---|---|---|
| Magistrate traffic record copy | 25 cents per page | Order through the magistrate clerk. |
| MFP payment transaction | $2 per payment | Shown as the WV.gov price. |
| Municipal record copy | Confirm locally | No Boone-wide municipal fee was documented. |
Before ordering, ask the issuing court for the page count, certification need, total, payment method, and delivery route.
Boone Traffic Data Is Not a Docket
The Judiciary’s annual-report archive publishes aggregate categories, not a list of pending traffic hearings.

Archive figures give context for Boone County filings, but they will not tell you when to show up. A real court date comes from the citation, an event schedule, a notice, or the clerk.
The state's court statistics dashboards refresh daily with near-real-time totals, each carrying preliminary-data warnings.

Numbers on a dashboard cannot prove how a ticket ended or stand in for its docket entries. The Boone County Clerk's recorded-document search is a separate system traffic searchers sometimes run across.

That county-clerk database covers recorded instruments, not magistrate or municipal traffic case records.
